Red Hawk Mine

Formerly Razorback #2, Knight Hawk purchased it in November 2003. There are 35 miners and 15 contractors at Red Hawk producing 600,000 tons per year. Four D-11 dozers are utilized here uncovering coal from Illinois #5 and #6 seams.

Sulfur quality varies between 2.5 percent and 3.2 percent. The coal burns at between 11,000 to 11,700 BTUs and contains about 10 percent ash.

The mine has 5 million tons of coal in reserves. A 250-tons-per-hour jig plant is used to wash the coal.
